experiment 2.2

in experiment 2.1 the variable body surface temperatures are recorded.

there was a directly proportionate raise in body surface temp, and window temp, and indoor air temp during my yoga session. (+2C)

the raise in air temp,+2C, doesn't seem like much but if I can amplify this variation of temperature say 10C, the spacial condition will be different and there will be consequences. people will behave differently. sweat, removal of clothing, removal of shoes? the program for the space may begin to shift.

when one goes on a trip to a tropical location, often they dress for their arrival in that tropical location (sandals, teeshirts) underneath their winter parkas. when they leave at the end of the vacation, they are still wearing summer clothing for the plane ride. On the hot days this September, I still often wore jeans because my destination, studio, was freezing cold. people dress for a specific micro climate: either for the climate of the exterior, the nomadic dresser.. or for the destination, the settling dresser.

when examined carefully, on a longer time period the increase in temperature, even +2C is quite significant culturally. as the winter progresses, even more of a temperature variation will exist between the inside and the outside, and therefore the layers of clothing people wear will increase.

what is interesting to me is the effects microclimates have on culture: politically, socially, and therefore architecturally. i am interested in ones ability to observe a microclimate.
microclimate is felt, and physiologically dealt with, but otherwise not examined. one way to examine microclimate is to opticalize temperature variation by showing the effects of it. (etc. iciles in winter, a kit in the sky, steam on a mirror after a shower).

i recorded the surfaces in the space which are touched by the sun in its path across the sky over the course of the day. different materials hold the heat differently then others.

metal and glass also temperature to pass
concrete, stucco and tile, and plastic hold heat.

the materials touched by our feet and hands are closer to body temperature.

the floor was hot because the radiator room is bellow the floor.
